Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

The past couple of days I've been thinking about the hymn Come though Fount of Every Blessing. If you haven't heard this song before, it is absolutely beautiful.

In seminary we discussed where the lyrics of the song came from and what they mean. The meaning and the purpose of the song really became known to me after we had this discussion and it made more sense.

This song I feel really evokes our spiritual lives and our connection with God. Though we often struggle in life, God is always there for us waiting to help us and bring us back to where we should be.

It was a very spiritual lesson and I really learned a lot. We learned about what an Ebeneezer is (big rock that shows sign of protection). And we learned what the last verse means in regards to feeling temptation, but wanted to come back to the Savior.

Then in church yesterday, a young woman sang this song and it almost brought tears. It is such an inspiring song and makes me so grateful for the Savior and everything He's done for me.

Here are the lyrics to the song. The message they teach is wonderful and I hope you are able to get something out of them.

Come thou fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
I'll praise the mount I'm fixed upon it
Mount of thy redeeming love

Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by thy help I come
And I hope by thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home

Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wondering from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

O to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be!
Let thy goodness like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above

Always have hope,

Colby
